Empowerment Through Identity: Supporting Vulnerable and IDP Children in Crisis-Affected Communities

Path for the Vulnerable Association is a community-based organization based in Mutengene, South West Region of Cameroon. We work directly with communities to protect and empower vulnerable children, including those from Internally Displaced Person (IDP) families, who have been severely affected by the ongoing crisis in the region.
Many of the families we support live in extreme vulnerability. Some are IDPs who were forced to flee their homes due to conflict, while others are local families facing deep poverty and limited access to civil services. As a result, many children are growing up without birth certificates.
This situation is mainly caused by two factors:
Many parents are not fully aware of the importance of birth registration.
Others understand its importance but lack the financial means or ability to complete the administrative process.
Without a birth certificate, a child is at risk of being denied access to education, healthcare, national examinations, and future employment opportunities. For both vulnerable and displaced children, the absence of legal identity deepens exclusion and limits their chances for a better future.
Path for the Vulnerable Association addresses this challenge by sensitizing parents and caregivers, supporting families through the birth registration process, and assisting with related costs. We work in collaboration with local authorities to ensure children receive their legal identity.
In 2026, our objective is to assist at least 100 children from vulnerable and IDP families to obtain birth certificates. Beyond documentation, we also aim to empower these children through skills acquisition programs, helping them build confidence, resilience, and pathways toward self-reliance.
By supporting this campaign, you are giving a child recognition, protection, and opportunity. You are helping ensure that no vulnerable or displaced child is left invisible.
Together, we can restore identity and hope.
